Children's Jewellery Guide

Whether you're buying jewellery for your own child or as a gift, it's important to consider factors such as style, sizing and safety when deciding which pieces to add to their collection.

Not sure what you're looking for? When it comes to earrings, we recommend studs, while bangles and bracelets are ideal for babies and young children.

Sizing

Shopping online can make it difficult to choose the correct size, but it's important to ensure that any jewellery you buy isn't too small, too large or uncomfortable. Taking a few simple measurements before ordering is always recommended.

  • When buying a bracelet or bangle, use a piece of string or ribbon to measure the child's wrist, then add an extra 1–2cm to ensure a comfortable fit. It shouldn't be too tight, but it shouldn't be so loose that it can easily catch on objects.
  • If you're shopping for a ring, use a ring sizer or a strip of paper to measure the circumference of the finger. If the measurement falls between two sizes, it's usually best to choose the larger size.

Tips for Children's Earrings

  • Screw-back earrings are the safest choice for younger children, as they're much harder to undo and can't be fastened too tightly.
  • While not essential, we recommend using rubber backs for children's earrings for extra comfort. You can shop rubber earring backs here.

Children's Jewellery Safety Tips

Here are a few tips to help keep your child safe while wearing jewellery:

  • As eye-catching as some of our pieces are, jewellery is not a toy and should never be played with.
  • Small parts can present a choking hazard, so children should never be allowed to put jewellery in or near their mouth.
  • Jewellery should not be worn while sleeping or for extended periods.
  • We do not recommend jewellery for children under 36 months. After this age, it's up to the parent or caregiver to decide whether the child can responsibly wear jewellery.
  • When fitting butterfly backs, avoid pushing them too tightly against the earlobe, as this may cause them to become embedded.
  • None of our pierced jewellery is suitable for use as an initial piercing or during the healing period. Please only wear our earrings once the piercing has fully healed and your piercer has advised it's safe to change your jewellery.
  • Regularly check bracelets, bangles and chains as your child grows to ensure they remain comfortable and are not becoming too tight.

Cleaning & Aftercare

  • To help reduce the risk of infection, earrings should be cleaned regularly. A simple solution of mild soap and warm water is ideal. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry using a soft, clean cloth.
