methodology

We used government data from both the UK and the US to find a list of names given to babies registered between 2000-2020. This was data for UK boys and UK girls as well as both boys and girls in the US.

We were then able to compare this with a list of the most popular fashion and beauty brands as well as a list of precious stones to give us the most popular names. We excluded common names that may be associated with brands. For example, while Hugo Boss is one of the brands we looked at, we did not look at the name Hugo as it is a popular name in its own right; rather, we looked at the name Boss which is more commonly associated with the brand.
