jewellery glossary: nose studs

Here at jewellerybox we offer a variety of different nose stud styles, and not only this, but a range of thicknesses too to ensure that there is something for every piercing. Our guide will help you figure out which nose stud is best for you!

l-shaped nose studs

L-shaped nose studs are generally relatively thin in terms of their thickness, making them a very comfortable nose stud choice. The L-shape is used to prevent the jewellery from sliding out of the piercing. The bend is generally at an angle of 90 degrees to ensure its secure in the nose.

ball end nose studs

Ball end nose studs tend to be a little shorter than other styles, and are perfect for everyday comfortable wear. There is a small ball on one end of the stud which holds it in place once inside the nostril. These nose studs tend to be the easiest to insert yourself, making it a great option if you want to change your piercing yourself without having to visit a piercer.

andralok nose studs

Andralok nose studs tend to be a little thicker than other styles of nose studs, and therefore are not recommended for people who are changing their piercing for the first time. Despite it being a little thicker than other styles, this style is a best seller on the jewellerybox website. The andralok fastening is generally 1mm in thickness, and snaps in place to allow you to be reassured it will stay in place all day.

nose screws

Nose screws are generally used when a piercing is first done, and therefore tend to be a go-to for people who are looking to change their nose stud for the first time. Due to their curve, they are perfect for people who have difficulty keeping nose studs in place. Since nose piercings can close up quickly, these are a great option if you don’t want to risk this happening.

When shopping for nose studs, we do always include the thickness of the stud in the description box. This is sometimes done in gauge (Ga) and sometimes in millimetres (mm). Below is a table so you can convert the Ga to mm.
