Andralok Nose Studs - Your Questions Answered

What is an Andralok nose stud? +

Andralok is a patented fastening system designed to keep your nose stud securely in place. Instead of relying on friction or a bend in the wire, Andralok studs have a tiny lever on the inside of the pin that clicks shut once the stud is inserted — a bit like a miniature latch. This makes them the most secure type of nose stud we sell, and a popular choice for anyone who's ever lost a nose stud or worries about one falling out during the day.

How do I put in and remove an Andralok nose stud? +

To insert, slide the pin through your piercing from the outside until you feel the lever click into place on the inside of your nostril — you'll hear and feel a small snap when it's locked. To remove, reach inside your nostril and press the lever down with your fingernail or fingertip, then gently push the stud back out from the inside. It can feel a bit fiddly the first couple of times, but once you've done it a few times it becomes second nature.

What types of nose stud fastenings do you offer? +

We stock four main fastening styles. L-shaped studs have a bent pin that hooks inside the nostril — they're easy to insert and the most popular choice. Andralok studs have a small lever that clicks into place for extra security, making them great if you're worried about losing a stud. Ball-end studs have a small ball on the inside of the pin to hold them in place, and nose screws have a spiral-shaped pin that twists into the piercing. Each product page tells you which fastening it uses.

What nose studs are most likely to stay in securely? +

If you're worried about losing a nose stud, Andralok studs are your best bet — they have a small lever that clicks shut inside the nostril, so they won't budge until you deliberately release them. Nose screws are the next most secure, with a spiral pin that twists into the piercing and holds itself in place. L-shaped studs are easy to insert and stay put for most people, though they can occasionally slip out if your piercing is on the larger side. Ball-end studs rely on a gentle friction fit, so they're best for piercings that are well established.

How are nose studs measured? +

Nose studs have two key measurements: the stud size, which is the diameter of the decorative part on the outside, and the pin gauge, which is the thickness of the wire that goes through your piercing. Gauge is shown in both mm and Ga — a lower Ga number means a thicker pin. Both measurements are listed on each product page under the specification section.

Can I wear my nose stud all the time, or should I remove it occasionally? +

Our nose studs are designed for comfort and durability, so you can wear them all the time. However, for hygiene and to maintain the best condition of the stud, we recommend removing it occasionally to clean both the jewellery and your piercing site.

Are there any special care tips for nose studs? +

To keep your nose studs looking their best, clean them regularly with a gentle jewellery cleaner suitable for the metal you've chosen. Always handle your nose studs with clean hands, and ensure the piercing site is kept clean and dry to avoid irritation.
