9ct Gold Stud Earrings - Your Questions Answered

Is 9ct gold real gold? +

Yes — 9ct gold is solid, real gold. It's made up of 37.5% pure gold alloyed with other metals for strength and durability, which is why you'll see the 375 stamp on some of our pieces. It's the most popular gold purity in the UK because it strikes the perfect balance between a beautiful gold colour and everyday wearability. All our gold that is over the required weight is hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.

What's the difference between 9ct gold and gold-plated? +

9ct gold is solid gold all the way through — the colour won't wear off or fade because the gold is part of the metal itself. Gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold over a base metal, which can wear away over time with regular use. Every pair of studs in this collection is solid 9ct gold, so they'll keep their colour and quality for years to come.

Are 9ct gold stud earrings suitable for sensitive ears? +

9ct gold is one of the best choices for sensitive ears. It's naturally hypoallergenic and doesn't contain nickel, which is the most common cause of earring-related irritation. If you've struggled with cheaper metals in the past, solid gold studs are well worth the step up.

Will 9ct gold stud earrings tarnish? +

9ct gold is far more resistant to tarnishing than silver. Over time it can lose a little of its shine, but it won't darken or discolour the way silver does. A quick wipe with a soft cloth after wearing is all you need to keep them looking their best. Avoid spraying perfume directly onto your earrings and take them out before swimming in chlorinated water.

How are your stud earrings measured? +

Our studs are measured by their diameter - the distance from one side to the other of the actual stud part of the earring (excluding the pin and back). This gives a sense of the size of the stud in your ear.

See our Size Guide on the product page to see different size studs on a model to give an idea of what each size will look like

Are stud earrings good for first piercings? +

Stud earrings are one of the most popular choices for first-time piercings. They sit flat against the ear, won't snag on clothing or hair, and are comfortable to sleep in. We'd recommend waiting until your piercing is fully healed (typically 6–8 weeks for lobes) before switching from the jewellery your piercer fitted. Once healed, a small sterling silver stud is an ideal first pair.

Can I return earrings? +

Yes - you can return earrings, however if they are unsealed we can only offer store credit. If they're sealed then we can give you a full refund. We offer 30 days returns on our products - see our returns policy

Can I get gift wrapping with my earrings? +

Yes - we offer two main levels of gift wrapping. In order to keep costs to you down, most of our earrings come in an envelope as standard. You can see this on the product page.

You can upgrade most earrings to come in a branded giftbox for a small fee.

You can also choose to add a branded giftbag, which comes with a polishing cloth at checkout. These can be combined together (box + giftbag) or used on their own.

How long does shipping take? +
