Hoop Earrings - Your Questions Answered

What metals do your hoop earrings come in? +

Our hoop earrings are available in sterling silver, 9ct gold, 9ct rose gold, 9ct white gold and gold-plated sterling silver. Whether you're after solid gold or the look of gold at a more affordable price point, there's an option for you. All our metals are tested and verified through the Edinburgh Assay Office, and over 60% of our collection is made from recycled metals.

What sizes do your hoop earrings come in? +

We carry hoops from tiny 8mm sleepers that hug the earlobe right up to 80mm statement hoops. If you're not sure where to start, small sleeper hoops (8–12mm) are great for everyday wear or helix piercings, medium hoops (15–25mm) are the most versatile size, and large to extra-large hoops (30mm+) are perfect for making a statement. All our hoops are measured by their external diameter.

How are your hoop earrings measured? +

We measure the external diameter of hoops - the distance from one side to the other from outside to outside.

When we describe a hoop as being '10mm' - we mean the external diameter is 10mm. You can check on a ruler or tape measure what that looks like in real life. 10mm = 1cm.

We also provide the width of the metal part of the hoop itself in most cases. Check the 'Specifications' tab on the product page to find this. This tells you how thick the hoops are.

Our size guide on the product pages can give you more information, and show you each hoop size on a real model's ear so you can get a sense of it.

Are your hoops suitable for new earrings? +

We'd recommend waiting until your piercing is fully healed before wearing sterling silver hoops. During the healing period (typically 6–8 weeks for lobe piercings), your piercer will usually advise sticking with the jewellery they fitted, often surgical steel or titanium. This minimises any possible reaction you might have.

Once healed, sterling silver is a great option. Our small sleeper hoops (from 8mm) are especially popular as a first pair after healing - they're lightweight, sit close to the ear, and are comfortable enough to sleep in without snagging.

If you have particularly sensitive skin, it's worth noting that sterling silver contains a small amount of copper (7.5%), which very occasionally causes a reaction. If that's a concern, look for our 9ct gold hoops (including white gold).

Can I wear your hoops in the shower or the swimming pool? +

If they are sterling silver - you can, but you may find they tarnish more quickly. Tarnishing is no bad thing, it can be polished off very easily. Our recommendation is to take sterling silver hoops off before you go in the sea, swimming pool or shower and to minimise their contact with make up and suncream.

For other materials like 9ct Gold (including White and Rose gold), this is much less of an issue as Gold doesn't react with other things as much as silver does.

What does Recycled Metal mean? +

When we say our items are made from Recycled metal, this is metal (Sterling Silver and 9ct Gold) that has been melted down and made into our products. The products themselves have not been worn and are all brand new.

This is more environmentally friendly than mining for new metal and reduces the amount of labour involved in creating our jewellery Not all our products are made from recycled metal yet, but most are. We are working towards increasing this number

Can I return earrings? +

Yes - you can return earrings, however if they are unsealed we can only offer store credit. If they're sealed then we can give you a full refund. We offer 30 days returns on our products - see our returns policy

Can I get gift wrapping with my earrings? +

Yes - we offer two main levels of gift wrapping. In order to keep costs to you down, most of our earrings come in an envelope as standard. You can see this on the product page.

You can upgrade most earrings to come in a branded giftbox for a small fee.

You can also choose to add a branded giftbag, which comes with a polishing cloth at checkout. These can be combined together (box + giftbag) or used on their own.
