Trace Chains

A trace chain is the simplest style there is: small, uniform round or oval links joined in a plain repeating pattern. Because it is fine and understated it tends to disappear against the skin, which makes it the usual choice for hanging a pendant you want to be the focus. Faceted trace chains have cut edges that add a little sparkle.

Most of our 9ct gold chains are available in a choice of lengths, typically ranging from 16 to 22 inches. A 16-inch chain sits close to the neck like a choker, 18 inches falls just below the collarbone and is the most popular length for women, while 20–22 inches gives a longer drop that works well for layering or for men. Yes — our 9ct gold chains are designed to be worn on their own or paired with a pendant. Finer styles like box and trace chains are ideal for lightweight pendants and lockets, while curb and rope chains suit heavier pieces. Just make sure the pendant bail fits through the chain link — if you're unsure, the chain width is listed on each product page.

Yes — 9ct gold is solid, real gold. It's made up of 37.5% pure gold alloyed with other metals for strength and durability, which is why you'll see the 375 stamp on some of our pieces. It's the most popular gold purity in the UK because it strikes the perfect balance between a beautiful gold colour and everyday wearability. All our gold that is over the required weight is hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.

Yes — we stock chains for everyone. Our longer lengths (20–22 inches) and chunkier styles like curb and rope chains are popular with men, while finer trace and box chains in 16–18 inches tend to be a favourite with women. That said, there are no rules — pick whatever style and length you like the look of.

Of course, we offer 30 days returns on all our products, with the only exception being personalised or engraved items.
