9ct Gold Nose Studs - Your Questions Answered

What types of nose stud fastenings do you offer? +

We stock four main fastening styles. L-shaped studs have a bent pin that hooks inside the nostril — they're easy to insert and the most popular choice. Andralok studs have a small lever that clicks into place for extra security, making them great if you're worried about losing a stud. Ball-end studs have a small ball on the inside of the pin to hold them in place, and nose screws have a spiral-shaped pin that twists into the piercing. Each product page tells you which fastening it uses.

What nose studs are most likely to stay in securely? +

If you're worried about losing a nose stud, Andralok studs are your best bet — they have a small lever that clicks shut inside the nostril, so they won't budge until you deliberately release them. Nose screws are the next most secure, with a spiral pin that twists into the piercing and holds itself in place. L-shaped studs are easy to insert and stay put for most people, though they can occasionally slip out if your piercing is on the larger side. Ball-end studs rely on a gentle friction fit, so they're best for piercings that are well established.

What is the best nose stud for daily wear and swapping? +

A corkscrew or nose screw is ideal if you like to change up your look regularly. The spiral-shaped pin twists in and out smoothly once you get the hang of it, so swapping between styles only takes a few seconds. Once in, the corkscrew shape holds the stud securely without any clips or clasps to fiddle with — making it comfortable enough to wear all day and night. It's the go-to choice for people who want something reliable but still easy to switch out.

What is the best nose stud for new piercings or first timers? +

An L-shaped nose stud is the best option if you're new to nose jewellery. The pin has a simple right-angle bend, so inserting and removing it is as straightforward as it gets — no twisting or clicking needed. That makes it much less daunting when you're changing your nose stud for the first time. L-shaped studs sit flat and comfortably against the inside of the nostril, and they stay in well for most people. Once you're confident with the process, you can always move on to corkscrews or Andraloks later if you want extra security.

How are nose studs measured? +

Nose studs have two key measurements: the stud size, which is the diameter of the decorative part on the outside, and the pin gauge, which is the thickness of the wire that goes through your piercing. Gauge is shown in both mm and Ga — a lower Ga number means a thicker pin. Both measurements are listed on each product page under the specification section.

Are 9ct gold nose studs suitable for sensitive skin? +

9ct gold is naturally hypoallergenic and doesn't contain nickel, so it's a great choice for sensitive skin. If you've had reactions to cheaper body jewellery in the past, solid gold is well worth the step up. For brand new piercings, we'd recommend waiting until your piercing is fully healed before switching from the jewellery your piercer fitted.

Can I wear my 9ct gold nose stud all the time? +

You can — 9ct gold is durable and resistant to tarnishing, so it's well suited to being worn day and night. We'd just recommend giving both the stud and your piercing a clean now and then for hygiene. If you're swimming in chlorinated water, it's worth popping it out or rinsing it off afterwards.

Is 9ct gold real gold? +

Yes — 9ct gold is solid, real gold. It's made up of 37.5% pure gold alloyed with other metals for strength and durability, which is why you'll see the 375 stamp on some of our pieces. It's the most popular gold purity in the UK because it strikes the perfect balance between a beautiful gold colour and everyday wearability. All our gold that is over the required weight is hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.

What does Recycled Metal mean? +

When we say our items are made from Recycled metal, this is metal (Sterling Silver and 9ct Gold) that has been melted down and made into our products. The products themselves have not been worn and are all brand new.

This is more environmentally friendly than mining for new metal and reduces the amount of labour involved in creating our jewellery Not all our products are made from recycled metal yet, but most are. We are working towards increasing this number

As these are custom and we're unable to sell them after they've been customised, we cannot accept returns of personalised or engraved items unless they are proved to be faulty
