Sterling Silver Nose Studs - Your Questions Answered

What types of nose stud fastenings do you offer? +

We stock four main fastening styles. L-shaped studs have a bent pin that hooks inside the nostril — they're easy to insert and the most popular choice. Andralok studs have a small lever that clicks into place for extra security, making them great if you're worried about losing a stud. Ball-end studs have a small ball on the inside of the pin to hold them in place, and nose screws have a spiral-shaped pin that twists into the piercing. Each product page tells you which fastening it uses.

How are nose studs measured? +

Nose studs have two key measurements: the stud size, which is the diameter of the decorative part on the outside, and the pin gauge, which is the thickness of the wire that goes through your piercing. Gauge is shown in both mm and Ga — a lower Ga number means a thicker pin. Both measurements are listed on each product page under the specification section.

Are sterling silver nose studs suitable for sensitive skin? +

Sterling silver is well tolerated by most people and is a popular choice for nose piercings. It doesn't contain nickel in any significant quantity, which is the most common cause of irritation from body jewellery. For brand new piercings, we'd recommend waiting until your piercing is fully healed before switching from the jewellery your piercer fitted.

Will a sterling silver nose stud tarnish? +

It can over time — tarnishing is a natural reaction between silver and the air. Nose studs tend to tarnish a little slower than other jewellery because they're small and worn close to the skin, which keeps them polished through regular contact. If yours does start to darken, a gentle wipe with a silver polishing cloth will sort it out.

What does Sterling Silver mean? +

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver - it is arguably the best composition of silver for jewellery making because it is a lot more durable and harder than pure silver, which is a very soft metal.

You may see .925 mentioned or stamped on some pieces, this refers to the 92.5% silver in the item.

The remaining 7.5% is usually made up of copper, zinc and other metals.

Can I return items to you if they don't fit or I don't like them? +

As these are custom and we're unable to sell them after they've been customised, we cannot accept returns of personalised or engraved items unless they are proved to be faulty
